daughters of the bloomington revolution:
2009 calendar project
DAUGHTERS OF THE BLOOMINGTON REVOLUTION is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds for, promotes, and advances the well-being of citizens in and around the Bloomington area. D.B.R. is dedicated to social change by supporting both the immediate and long term needs of its community.
D.B.R. approached me in the fall of 2008 asking for help creating a calendar that they could sell to raise money to donate to the Bloomington Playwrights Project. They were interested in having color photographs of the members of the organization in vintage pin-up style. The portraits would then be extracted from their background and digitally collaged over mono-chromatic illustrations created by various artists in the Bloomington community. I was provided with 12 rough sketches of the background concepts, and then given creative freedom to direct and photograph the models as I saw fit. I photographed 20 different women, collaborated on costuming, provided two background illustrations, and assisted in the final composition and layout of the calendar.
